My name is Tamara Dobranic. I am a Concert Harpist from Belgrade, Serbia. I began my long journey discovering the wonders of this divine instrument, which has invoked in me a passion that is bigger than me. In fact, in my humble beginnings, at the age of six, I was so determined to conquer the daunting task of learning the harp that I used pillows on my chair in order to reach the strings.
Music has led me to heights that I dreamt of as that young child. The road that I have chosen has been challenging. It has taken a lot of sacrifice and hard work to hone my craft. In return, I have gained a tremendous amount of experience and have garnered great confidence.
At the age of fifteen, I started the University of Music, in Belgrade, the youngest student to ever attend that prestigious institution. At the age of twenty-one, I earned my Master’s degree in Music Performance. While studying, I became a member of the Deutsch Skandinavische Jugend-Philharmonie in Berlin, Germany. During this time, I also played with different orchestras and competed in numerous musical competitions. My two proudest moments have been winning first place as a harp soloist at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago in Chile and then about a month later, at the same venue, accompanying Placido Domingo, the world’s greatest tenor, during a musical performance. These have been the highlights of my professional musical carrier. After my experience in Chile, I travelled to Brazil, where I took a position as a solo harpist at the Orquestra Filarmonica de Minas Gerais, which is the most prestigious orchestra in Brazil.
One of the most beautiful things about learning to master a classical instrument is that, regardless of experience and talent, there is always plenty of room to learn and grow. After my Master’s degree, I did not stop learning, I decided to travel to Paris, France to continue my education. This is where I met a wonderful and talented harpist named Veronique Ghesquire. She has been my mentor and my teacher and has really helped me learn to be a professional. After my time abroad, I came back to Serbia, where I became a member of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and professor at the School of Music.
Personally, I am a mother of a beautiful two-year-old girl named Sofia. She is still too young to show any talents, but I can see her great interest in music, which makes me very proud and happy. I am also very passionate about travelling, which I enjoy very much. Meeting people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds has been extremely fulfilling and I look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the world through music.
